BELLTOWN. Although this establishment touts itself as an urban restaurant, it could be argued that it is in fact more urbane than urban. Axis is the gathering spot for upwardly mobiles who live by the "see and be seen" credo. The place is always packed, both in the bar and the dining area. The interior is chic and sophisticated, as is the cuisine, which the owners describe as "post-fusion." Indeed, it's hard to forget such entrées as Oregon salmon with ginger miso, beef tenderloin with merlot au jus, and Szechwan chicken with black vinegar. Servings are generous, and entrées are accompanied by sides of mashed Yukon gold potatoes. Make sure to arrive early to get a seat.
